Facebook Takes Ottawa Restaurant Fandom to a new level
The biggest fan group is for: DiRienzo's = Best Sandwiches in Ottawa (1,772 members). But even with 1,772 fans, some still want to change things up: De Rienzo's rocks my socks!...but could use an outdoor eating area. (39 members)

Though they certainly aren't the only Italian Sandwich spot with fans showing their facebook love: Bottega Boys [2.0] (57 members)
Another big hit: Maroush Int'l Shawarma (577 members), seems to have a few customers happy to admit they are on the naughty list: Marroush International Shawarma - NO SHAWARMA FOR YOU!!! (79 members)
Kettleman's, another spot with a vocal fan base, shows some solid numbers: Kettleman's Bagel (382 members)
Then there's the ESD. I'm not surprised to find a fan group for them, but I'm a little surprised by the numbers: Elgin Street Diner (13 years iof success) (71 members). Perhaps this is staff-only like their sister group for The Diner (19 members). (Which, btw, includes a great description of The Diner "The Elgin Street Diner's younger, more attractive, less slutty, sister restaurant.")
Of course, you'll find more than just sandwich spots and late night munchies menus getting attention:
Chez Lucien Fanatics (102 members) - even before the nod from Ottawa Magazine.
Mayflower Restaurant and Pub (41 members) - with lineups for weekend breakfasts, this can't be a huge surprise.
Some facebook fans have decided to get a little more specific about what they love and want from their favourite restaurants:
I Love Marshy's Monday $2 Beer (47 members) - now, who doesn't love $2 beer?
Colonnade Pizza, will you please open up shop in Toronto? (24 members) - someone's craving a taste of home.
Then there are the facebook groups started as tributes:
Caribbean Flavours is the Second Coming of Our Lord (29 members) - where they started discussing a fund raiser to get Caribbean Flavours up and rolling again.
Memories of Memories: the restaurant on Clarence St. in Ottawa's market (6 members) - Memories? But it's not even closed. Is this a bad sign?
However, the multiple groups for Zak's makes me wonder:
Then there are the places that aren't in the CEOT price range or are big chains, but are still loved.
Of course, after all that, you know CheapEats Ottawa has a facebook group too. Wanna join?
