Pi Day March 14th is a day to celebrate for foodies and mathies alike. (Luckily, I'm both so I get an extra big helping!) Whether you're into sweet or savoury pies, fruit or cream pies, quiche or tourtiere, Ottawa's a great place to celebrate the day.
Looking for a sweet slice?
- Le Twist (pg. 64)- offers a Tartelette à l’érable ($5.25) – maple sugar pie - that regularly gets raves
- La Brûlerie - Mavaya, a worldwide Pecan Pie expert, suggests we try La Brûlerie’s offering ($4.95).
- Miller’s Oven (pg. 71) in Manotick offers a "Mile High Lemon Meringue Pie" ($3.95), which measures a little less than a mile, but is still impressive.
- And of course Memories (pg.70) serves a big slice of apple ($7) for your regulation one a day.
Is savoury more your style?
- Check out Le Troquet (pg.64) who offer quiches that are perfect for lunch or a light dinner.
- or Swiss Pastries (pg.92) in Westboro who also do a lovely quiche ($3.59).
Snag both a savoury and a sweet slice at:
- Le Moulin de Provence (pg.63) offers both a selection of sweet, quiche and meat pies by the slice ($2.99-7.99) or in whole pies to take home and share (if you must)
Try a Middle Eastern/Lebanese pie, which are made with a crust that is more dough than, at:
- Helen's (pg.55) who serves fresh baked Lebanese meat pies ($2.59-3.77). Helen herself will tell you which ones are freshest out of the oven.
- Aladdin Convenience & Bakery (pg.27) meat pies or spinach & cheese pies for $1. Really, how can you go wrong?
And of course, if none of these do you can always celebrate Pi Day with a traditional pizza pie.
