Tech Update

First of all,

Apology for those repetitive posts

I'd like to apologize for filling your RSS Readers with those "Quick  Notes".   My intent was to use LoudTwitter to share the CheapEats Ottawa twitter updates with you.

But what was initially a quick and easy way to share short notes turned into an RSS-clogging annoyance.  

So I've turned it off, and hopefully that's the last you'll be seeing of that.

Tech Update - @CEOT on twitter

However, we are doing occasional twitter updates which might be of interest to you.  If you are on twitter, you can follow @CEOT, send comments to @CEOT, or even tag your CheapEats tweets with #CETO.

Tech Update - New Plethora Press Store for CheapEats

On a less frustrating note, we've successfully launched our new sales site for CheapEats - the Plethora Press Bookstore (Plethora Press is our publisher, who is also us.)

Thanks to everyone who helped get test it out.  Your books are in the mail.

Since we've noticed people have started to blog about the new edition and the upcoming launch party, but are showing great restraint and respect for copyright, we wanted to make some resources available to you to make it a little easier to show while you tell.

Facebook Takes Ottawa Restaurant Fandom to a new level

The biggest fan group is for: DiRienzo's = Best Sandwiches in Ottawa (1,772 members). But even with 1,772 fans, some still want to change things up: De Rienzo's rocks my socks!...but could use an outdoor eating area. (39 members)

Though they certainly aren't the only Italian Sandwich spot with fans showing their facebook love:  Bottega Boys [2.0] (57 members)

Another big hit: Maroush Int'l Shawarma (577 members), seems to have a few customers happy to admit they are on the naughty list: Marroush International Shawarma - NO SHAWARMA FOR YOU!!! (79 members)

Kettleman's, another spot with a vocal fan base, shows some solid numbers: Kettleman's Bagel (382 members)

Then there's the ESD.  I'm not surprised to find a fan group for them, but I'm a little surprised by the numbers: Elgin Street Diner (13 years iof success)  (71 members).  Perhaps this is staff-only like their sister group for The Diner (19 members).  (Which, btw, includes a great description of The Diner "The Elgin Street Diner's younger, more attractive, less slutty, sister restaurant.")

Hey, did you know we have a CheapEats Ottawa Flickr group?

I mean, some people want to talk about food and restaurants, some people want to photograph food and restaurants.  It's great seeing some of the next takes people have on old favourites, and what a great introduction to new restaurants and new cuisines.  You can actually see what you are in for.

We've setup the Flickr group so that by submitting photos there gives us permission to use the photos here and on CheapEatsOttawa.com.  But if they are, you will get a byline under your photo.
