Red Pen Update: Nagina
This Red Pen Update is courtesy of Marcia who dropped me the following note this morning about Nagina (CheapEats Ottawa pg. 72)
This is to let you know that Nagina at 217 Rideau, which is in your guide, is no longer. Last year it closed and then opened up under new management as Bombay Fine Dining.
It had a wonderful buffet, with lots of choice,
including several vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Then, not long after, it closed again and reopened under the name Culinary India. My understanding is that one of the "Bombay" chefs bought out the owners.
Unfortunately, it reopened during the transit strike and business was badly affected. Right now Culinary India has the buffet only at noon on weekdays (cost is $11) and features the a la carte menu the rest of the time.
I have eaten there a couple of times, as I did when it was the Bombay. My a la carte dishes were good, but not I think up to the Bombay standard. I will be sampling the buffet with friends later this week. From what I was told, the owners had to cut back their offerings because business was so badly affected during the strike.
Thanks for the heads up Marcia! Please let us know what you think of the buffet.
